Content

This is a highly creative experience for those with an enquiring mine and an ambition to explore the world around them. The commitment to realise their imagination and ideas and to allow others to 'see the world' through your eyes.

You will study dictated themes and be expected to develop these in a truly personal and reflective manner. You will learn to critically analyse the work of established and current developing artists and be able to analyse your own work within the same context.

Special Features

You will have the opportunity to visit galleries and museums as day trips. Students are given portfolio advice and practice interviews if pursuing art into Further Education.

You will have full access to our extensive Art Library and resources as well as a dedicated Sixth Form Art Studio that is also available for use outside normal school hours.

Entry

You will need at least 5 A* - C GCSEs, if you have studied Art/Graphics at GCSE you will need to have achieved at least a B grade or above. Students without a supporting Art GCSE will be required to produce evidential work prior to acceptance.

Attendance

One year to AS plus one further year to complete the full A Level.

Assessment

This is through a combination of internally set coursework units and an externally set terminal examination.

Moving on

If you study Art and Design and wish to pursue Art into Further Education you are best advised to study a one year foundation course that will prepare you for the wide variety of specialist art degree courses available. Careers in art are wide ranging, from architecture to fashion designing and product design, as well as becoming a practicing artist! Perhaps you are the next Damien Hirst?
