This is a dynamic course that will lead to students having an excellent knowledge of the world of business, which can lead to a variety of different career paths within business, e.g. accountancy, personnel management, etc. and the opportunity to study Business at degree level. It will enable students to focus on the dynamic nature of the contemporary business world.
The course will further develop your knowledge and understanding of Finance, Accounting and People, Marketing and Operations Management. Students are encouraged to be independent learners, through the use of project based learning and extensive research on business topics. All students are expected to read national and local newspapers, to use the Internet to establish what is happening in the world of business and to read around all topical business issues. Students are also encouraged to watch business related TV programmes e.g. The Apprentice, Dragons' Den, The Money Programme.
Special Features
Throughout the AS and A2 courses there are opportunities to visit businesses and go on a Business Studies trip.
Entry
5 A*-C grades at GCSE (A GCSE within the subject is not essential, but is beneficial.)
Attendance
One year for AS Level, plus an additional year to complete the full A Level course.
Assessment
At AS this is done through three module examinations. Students are given the opportunity to sit one module in the January and the remaining two in June.
At A2 a combination of module examinations and a piece of coursework, which is approximately 2,500 words.
Moving on
Business Studies provides awareness and an understanding of the environment in which we live today and is valuable to those students who wish to pursue degrees and those who do not. Careers in Finance, Marketing, Education and Management are some of the occupations that naturally follow studying Business Studies at A Level.
