Besides being a fascinating subject in its own right, Geology combines perfectly with other AS/A2 Science, Geography and creative subjects. Geology covers a wide variety of topics from earthquakes and volcanoes to understanding life in the past. If you care about our planet and you are curious about what it can reveal about how it works, then Geology will appeal to you.

Special Features

The subject requires good analytical and imaginative skills and you should enjoy the outdoor life that fieldwork brings. The variety and flexibility of skills acquired make Geology a good foundation for a host of career directions.

Entry

You will need at least 5 A*-C GCSEs. You should have a minimum of grade C in Science, Double or Applied or separate Sciences.

Attendance

One year to AS plus one further year to complete the full A Level.

Assessment

This is through a combination of exam board assessed and centre assessed coursework and examinations.

Moving on

Geology graduates are highly sought after in many fields because of their wide range of skills and flexibility. Geology is useful in Energy and Resources, Civil Engineering, Surveying, Computing, Oceanography, Environmental Sciences, Business and many more. Energy and Resources opportunities will expand rapidly this century as we seek alternative supplies.
