Students with an enquiring mind will find this a fascinating course. You will study Modern World History in the twentieth century ranging from Modern British History to the rise and fall of Nazi Germany. The course offers you the opportunity to specialise in either US or Russian history and undertake a special investigation into a historical subject of your choice. The course will help you to develop important skills such as research, analysis, decision-making, presentation delivery using a variety of media, and team work.

How can we hope to understand the present if we have no comprehension of the past?

Special Features

You will have the opportunity to participate in a residential trip to Berlin in Year 12 and Model United Nations Conferences in Bath, Belfast and New York in both Years 12 and 13. You will also be able to attend student lectures in London. You will have access to the well stocked History section in the Learning Resource Centre.

Entry

You will need at least 5 A*-C GCSEs. It is not compulsory to have studied History at GCSE.

Attendance

One year to AS, plus one further year to complete the full A Level.

Assessment

This is through examinations only at AS Level and through a combination of examinations and coursework at A Level.

Moving on

This course will give a real advantage to students wishing to study History, Archaeology, Cultural Studies and Heritage Studies. It is a recommended course if you are interested in studying Law at university.

The course will prepare you for a range of opportunities in the heritage industries as well as a variety of careers ranging from Journalism, Law, Publishing, Management Consultancy and Politics to the Civil and Diplomatic Services and teaching.
