Content
We study the OCR Physics B 'Advancing Physics' A-level course. This is the most modern, dynamic and forward-thinking of all current Physics qualifications. There is a great emphasis on practical work and 'hands on' investigation. We make a great effort to link the teaching of Physics with modern technologies such as Electronics, Computing, Aeronautics, Space Science and Nuclear Physics. We aim to explore all aspects of the universe from the quantum behaviour of small particles at one extreme, to the underlying principles of cosmology at the other.
Special Features
The coursework activities offer great freedom of choice. This means that students can tailor the course to match their own interests and strengths. There is opportunity to work independently on both practical investigations and research.
Entry
You will need at least 5 A* - C grades including English, Maths and two Science subjects. We expect Maths and either Physics or Additional Science to have been passed at grade B or above.
Attendance
One year to AS plus one further year to complete the full A Level.
Assessment
This is through a combination of coursework (20%) and examinations (80%).
Moving on
Physics is essential for careers in Engineering, Electronics, and Physical Science. It is highly valued, and in some cases essential, for careers in Medicine, Pharmacy, the Armed Forces and Computing. The high level of numeracy skills that are acquired through the study of physics are ideal for Finance, Business and Accounting.
