Content

This is an exciting practically based course which looks at theatre in all its elements. Students look at theatre as performers, designers, directors and as critical informed audience members. The course involves your own performances; study of a classic play text and a significant modern theatrical practitioner, and your reviews of plays seen during the course.

It is not just an opportunity to learn more about theatre but to develop your own confidence, cop-operation and imaginative skills.

Special Features

We run a huge range of theatre visits to Bath, Bristol, Salisbury, Stratford and, of course, our famous annual trip to London. Students following the course will be invited to take part in the Endgames Theatre Festival at the Egg Theatre in Bath. We also have a series of workshops with professionals.

Entry

You will need at least 5 A* - C GCSEs. A good English grade is essential. It is helpful if you have done GCSE Drama, but not essential.

Attendance

One year to AS plus one further year to complete the full A Level.

Assessment

Formal examinations and performance examinations. The examinations based on specific plays are 'open text' exams where you may use your annotated text to support you in writing your answers.

Moving on

As well as the obvious routes into professional theatre, film and television, this is a good course for anybody considering any career with a need for communication and self presentation, e.g. the Leisure industry, Business, Law, Teaching, the Media (including Advertising), etc.
