This course is for students who are musically talented and are experienced at playing an instrument or singing. This course involves similar components to GCSE Music (Listening, Performing and Composing) but in much more detail.
Special Features
You will have extensive opportunities to perform in public through both schools.
Entry
A GCSE grade C or above in Music is required. Grade 5 Theory and Grade 4 Practical is desirable (although not compulsory for this course).
Attendance
One year to AS plus one further year to complete the full A Level.
Assessment
Performing: a 5/6 minute performing exam as a soloist and/or in an ensemble.Composing: create a 3 minute piece to a given brief and include a CD sleeve note to explain the influences on your piece.Listening: study pieces from a set list and answer in-depth questions on these pieces; complete a short passage for SATB voices; general listening test.
Moving on
If you wish to study Music at university then this course is for you. The knowledge and skills you will acquire through this course will also work for you in a range of careers, for example, Music Performing, Teaching, Music Therapy, etc.
