For students who enjoy designing and making textile products, this is an exciting course that includes creating your own work of industry-equivalent quality. The course is divided into three main areas: the study of the construction, characteristics and properties of fibres, yarns and fabrics; the study of design, including major developments in textiles technology and the history of fashion; and the use of a range of practical skills to complete coursework projects that include making a variety of textile products.
Special Features
You will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of visits, including The Clothes Show Live Exhibition, The Knitting and Stitching Show, the Bath Museum of Costume and a visit to Mulberry's design workshop and factory. You will have the opportunity to use all the equipment and materials in our modern textiles area, including the latest CAD/CAM embroidery equipment.
Entry
You will need at least 5 A*-C grades at GCSE.
Attendance
One year to AS plus one further year to complete the full A Level.
Assessment
This is through a combination of coursework and examinations.
Moving on
The course can accommodate students with a wide variety of career aspirations. Textiles Technology would assist with entry into University or Art College, which could lead into careers in interior design, fashion design, product development, pattern technology, fibre/garment/fabric technology, merchandising, production planning, marketing and sales.
