Since the time of Darwin, biology has been advancing the frontiers of human thought and understanding. As A Level students you will learn about the discoveries especially now with genetics and stem cell research which are at the cutting edge of science. Biology will have a major impact on everyone's lives in years to come and by studying this science you will be able to understand what is happening. Furthermore, as many new jobs are predicted in Science throughout the next decade by the CBI and Government, it will give you an important pathway to a career if you wish.
Special Features
Students have the chance to see a range of animals/plants and their physiological systems by close inspection. This is complemented by studying living things in their environments, both terrestrial and aquatic. Other trips to such venues as Bristol Zoo and the Natural History Museum are on offer.
Entry
GCSE 'C' grade minimum in all Maths, English or Science with a 'B' grade in one of these subjects.
Attendance
Full time.
Assessment
Examination and coursework.
2 module examinations in Year 12 and 2 in Year 13.
Moving on
To a career in: medicine or veterinary science, sports and leisure, biochemistry, general laboratory work, ecology and environmental sciences, horticulture and agriculture to name some of the major areas and there are many more.
