For students who enjoy English but aren't literature fans. This course focuses on the structure of the English language around the world and how language varies according to the social context. You also have the opportunity to be a writer yourself!

Special Features

This is a research-based hands-on subject. You will get many opportunities to conduct your own investigations in a variety of language topics. There is also a trip to London to sweeten the deal!!

Entry

You will need at least 5 A* -Cs at GCSE level. However, we would expect you to have a 'B' or above in English Language.

Attendance

One year AS plus one further year to complete the full A Level.

Assessment

AS Level: 3000 word assignment plus one exam.

A2 Level: 5000 word assignment plus one exam.

Moving on

If you wish to study Linguistics, Journalism and Media, Creative Writing and ICT at university then English Language is the course for you. However, a good grade at English Language shows universities and employers alike that you have a fantastic grasp of your own language.
