For students who love reading and are interested in Literature in a historical context, this course covers a particular genre in depth and also looks at a range of texts throughout the centuries.
You will need to acquire skills of analysis and interpretation and develop your essay writing techniques. There will be lots of opportunity for discussion.
Special Features
Opportunities to see new or old interpretations of texts on film or listen together on tape are abundant. We also regularly take students to see theatrical productions, particularly in Stratford or London. We would like to arrange visits to museums, libraries and art galleries in the future to supplement work on historical context.
Entry
You will need at least 5 grade Cs at GCSE and a B grade in either Language or Literature.
Attendance
AS English Literature is a one year course, with a further year to complete the full A Level.

Moving on
If you want to study Literature at university, then an 'A' level in Literature or a combined language course will be essential. 'A' level English also equips you with a range of communication skills that you will use throughout life. Careers in English range from teaching to Journalism, to just about any vocation that recruits articulate, thinking people.
